About the Artist
Sarah Neely is an emerging Canadian artist and professional director living and working in her hometown of Kelowna, BC.
Neely's practice focuses on works of abstractions – bold in touch with movement of gesture and color. Her vibrant pieces feature what she describes are commentaries from life with references to landscapes, memories, influences, poetics, music, and day- to-day moments in the Okanagan. Her work reflects varied mediums including acrylic paints, gouache, photography, charcoal, watercolor and oil pastel, and often focuses primarily on the expression of colours rather than the subject itself.
Neely studied at the University of British Columbia gaining her Bachelor of Management degree in 2009, and has studied the arts experientially and in academic settings gaining learnings from courses including through the Sotheby’s Institute of Art. A self-taught artist, Neely is most inspired by Fauvism and abstract expressionism, and through her studies, career, experiences, and world travel she has developed her style and techniques. Her work has appeared in group and solo exhibitions including at the Kelowna Innovation Centre and Kelowna Art Gallery, and can be found in private, public, and corporate collections.
